Every year, more than 100 kittens enter the shelter during the two or three month period known as “kitten season.”
Kittens are particularly vulnerable because they have underdeveloped immune systems. Some are without a mother and need to be bottle fed. Without foster families to watch over them, they often can’t receive the care they need in order to thrive, or the socialization they need to become friendly and adoptable.
At BCHS, every kitten is placed into a foster home until they are old enough to be vaccinated, fixed, and adopted. That usually happens when they weigh at least two pounds and are about 8-10 weeks old. Every litter of kittens is different, and some will need more care than others.
Without our foster families, we could not save as many kittens. YOU can be part of that vital lifeline.
Fostering doesn’t take a lot of room or supplies, and BCHS staff can teach whatever you need know. Whether you foster one litter of kittens or many litters, you will be making an important difference.
